PORTUGAL is a small size country but appears constantly in the best host countries rankings in the world. Welcoming, friendly and safe are some of the qualities of this Iberian Peninsula “corner”, wich is under international attention, whether we’re talking about tourism, investment or even as an option to live.

The advantage of living in Portugal is not limited to a single reason and there is no lack of arguments to do so.

/ GEOGRAPHY

Portugal is situated at the south-west point of Europe and also includes the Madeira and Azores archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean.

Mainland Portugal occupies an area of 88,889 km2. It is 218 km wide and 561 km long. It has 832 km of Atlantic coast and a 1,215 km border with Spain. Portugal has a population of about 10 million.

/ CLIMATE

Four seasons, a mild climate and sun exposure like few others in Europe. There are on average around 250 hours of sun per month, an incredible 3 thousand per year.

In terms of climate, Portugal is divided and there is something to suit all tastes but, generally speaking, the differences are not particularly marked. So, there’s plenty to enjoy outdoors.

There are over 800 km of coastline and great beaches, excellent infrastructures for equestrian sports or award-winning golf courses in stunning scenery that await you – speaking of golf, did you know that Portugal was voted Best Golf Destination in Europe six years in a row by the World Golf Awards?

/ LANGUAGE

From a Latin root, Portuguese is spoken by about 250 million people in every continent, and is the 5th most spoken language in the world and the 3rd, if we only consider the European languages.

The Portuguese-speaking countries are scattered all over the world. Portuguese is spoken in Africa (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé e Príncipe), in South America (Brazil) and in Asia, (East Timor, the youngest nation in the world), and it is also the official language in Macao Special Administrative Region of China.

In Portugal there are lots of people who are able to communicate in English, French and Spanish.

/ THE PORTUGUESE PEOPLE

The soul, the longing... The people. As a general rule, the Portuguese are considered to be very kind, welcoming, hospitable and helpful people.

They are “friends with their friends”, they create (and preserve) friendships easily because they do what many others refuse to do: they make an effort to be understood by those who do not master the Portuguese language. Whether in their best “portunhol” (mix of Portuguese and Spanish) or in English (which most of them speak) they try to help, it is rare for a tourist not to receive an answer to a request for help.

Portugal has won awards in several areas and is increasingly sought after, whether to live or simply invest. A tourist destination of choice due to the diversity it offers, it welcomes nationalities from all over the world and offers those who live here fantastic conditions to enjoy the best the country has to offer.

Portugal gathers consensus in what concerns the added value it offers to those who visit us. And the awards received are a reflection of the national arguments.

The so-called Tourism Oscars, the World Travel Awards once again distinguished the country in its 28th edition. Achievements that are special since, despite the pandemic, Portugal received over 20 awards.
